Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has got into a rather public argument with a Dutch journalist over his playing style.

The Dutchman enjoyed a successful first season in England but this one has turned into a nightmare.

Ten Hag made the rather peculiar decision to rip up the quite successful playbook from last year and attempt to turn his side into a transition based side.

This has gone spectacularly wrong as they find themselves in seventh place and have conceded a mammoth 77 goals in all competitions.

Ten Hag has infuriated fans as of late with his constant defence of the broken style and recently claimed that the matchday goers at Old Trafford “do not understand” when he subbed off Kobbie Mainoo last weekend against Burnley to a cacophony of boos.

Recently, the under-fire coach also bizarrely claimed that his side were “one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams” in the Premier League, which has been ridiculed in most quarters.

In an interview with ViaPlay (via The Metro) Ten Hag has once again doubled down on this view and argued over the statement with Dutch reporter, Koen Weijland.

When asked to explain his previous comments the former Ajax manager snapped, “if you would do your research, you would see in our data that we are very dynamic in terms of attacking play.”

The journalist then asked the United coach to clarify what he meant by the term “dynamic” and Ten Hag angrily retorted, “I’m just trying to explain that to you.”

“If you did your job, you would see that we are the team that is currently the most attractive and vertical team in the entire Premier League in terms of speed and movement.”

Ten Hag has certainly cut a curt, bristled figure in his press conferences lately and he gives off the impression of a man who knows his fate is sealed regardless of how the season ends.

Another example of that was his interview with Sky Sports, when he criticised the club for buying talents and not stars like Harry Kane, which is a direct contradiction of what his new boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe said less than two months ago in a very public interview.
