Enzo Raiola believes that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is doing a good job in his new role at AC Milan, a club that have had ‘problems’ in recent times.
Ibrahimovic retired from football at the end of the 2022-23 season and his absence from Milan did not end up being a long one. He officially returned for a third spell at the club in December 2023, swapping boots for a suit and tie as a Senior Advisor.
There has often been a lot of speculation and mystery surrounding what his exact role entails. The Swede has tried to explain it in interviews, such as the recent one with GQ Italia, but it is obvious that he has a lot of power and influence as Gerry Cardinale’s right-hand man of sorts.
Enzo Raiola spoke in an interview with Chiamarsi Bomber in which he talked about various topics including Ibrahimovic’s new role at Milan and former goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma who is being linked with Inter.
“Ibrahimovic knows his stuff, he was one of the greatest players of the last twenty years and he knows the world of football very well. For him this is a new experience, he doesn’t have an easy task but he is making his way. In the meantime he has already won the first trophy of his ‘management’,” he said.
“Then came the elimination from the Champions League but there it is never easy, as demonstrated by the elimination of Manchester City and the difficulties encountered by many top clubs in the first phase.
“Milan have changed many players and there have probably been problems of various kinds, but we must look to the future with confidence. I am convinced that whatever he does, Zlatan will do it to the best of his ability, giving his all and making the most of it. Difficulties often help you grow, perhaps this moment will help him improve further.
“Donnarumma? He is the goalkeeper of PSG and the national team and is highly regarded by several clubs, as is normal. Contacts for the renewal were already initiated last summer and we are working very calmly in this direction.
“In light of the rules imposed by UEFA, the club is making a U-turn from a financial point of view, going from a salary of over 500 million euros to less than half. We have accepted PSG’s new policy in terms of contract management and we are working on the renewal hypothesis, trying to find the best solution, but at the moment there is no rush.
“The club have expressed more than once its desire to continue with Donnarumma and the same goes for him. There have been no contacts with Inter or other clubs.
“I believe that if the player is put on the market he will have no problem finding teams interested in him, but at the moment there are no doors open in this direction. If something were to change in the coming months, then we will make our assessments.”
