Manchester United might have a good chance at landing Chelsea wantaway Ben Chilwell in the January transfer window.
The England international who turns 28 today had risen to prominence at his original club Leicester City, before earning a £45 million transfer to Chelsea in the summer of 2020.
The left-back became an instant hit at Stamford Bridge, and even won the Champions League trophy in his first campaign at the club while playing an integral role in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
However, the appointment of Enzo Marseca last summer spelled bad news for Chilwell who was dropped from the Premier League and Conference League squads, as the Italian manager prefers other players in his position, especially Marc Cucurella who has made the left-back slot his own. Therefore, the Englishman has only made one appearance this season, coming in the Carabao Cup.
According to the Mirror, Maresca has now opened the door for Chilwell to leave in January, alongside Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who have also been starving for playing time.
As the source explains, this can be good news for Man United who are longtime admirers of Chilwell, as they could be presented with the perfect opportunity to snatch his signature.

The Red Devils could do with a new left-back, especially amidst Luke Shaw’s never-ending injury ordeal and Tyrell Malacia’s unconvincing displays thus far, which has forced Ruben Amorim to deploy his compatriot Diogo Dalot on the left flank.
Moreover, Chilwell might just be the ideal fit for the Portuguese’s 3-4-2-1 system. After all, Marseca cited the player’s characteristics behind his decision to omit him from the squad, suggesting that the England international is more suited to a wingback role rather than a traditional full-back in a four-man defence.
So it remains to be seen if the star will align for Chilwell and the Reds.
