Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been answering questions today on whether Chelsea will sign a new centre back this window.
And some of the questions were also around whether current young centre back Aaron Anselmino will be considered as a solution instead.
It’s obvious Enzo Maresca wants a new centre back signed in, but it also looks like he’s been told by the club that they will not be getting one and he has to use internal options instead.
It was actually reported earlier today though that Chelsea ARE monitoring the centre back market right now but they would need to sell current options at the back first before moving on a new one.
Chelsea are on the cusp of selling one current centre back in the shape of Renato Veiga who is off to join Villarreal this window. Chelsea have also even secured a 40% sell-on clause on that deal apparently.
Maresca has been speaking to the media today ahead of tomorrow night’s game against West Ham in the Premier League, and of course he’s asked about the new centre back search.
He said:
“I already said we are looking for internal solutions. We will see what happens. We are trying to find a solution. I repeat again: We are looking for internal solutions and we will see if something happens.”
Aaron Anselmino makes his debut.
It doesn’t sound like Aaron Anselmino is an option.
Maresca said on that:
“Aaron is training with us. He is a fantastic boy. Good player, but he needs to go and play games. He is another player waiting for a solution.”
