Highlights

  • Chelsea thrashed Aston Villa 3-1 in a result no one saw coming heading into the game.
  • Enzo Fernandez steals the show with an incredible free-kick goal, the icing on the cake of a fantastic performance across the board.
  • Chelsea fans finally have something to celebrate after a tough period, and the goal from Fernandez is the highlight of the match.

Considering how much they've struggled in the Premier League recently, you'd be forgiven for expecting Chelsea to get demolished by the high-flying Aston Villa as the two met in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening. That wasn't to be, though, and the Blues quickly took control of the game, scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes.

It was Enzo Fernandez who scored the pick of the bunch, though. The Argentine scored an absolutely incredible free-kick to put Mauricio Pochettino's side 3-0 up in the second half. It's been one of the most dominant performances from Chelsea all season, and the goal from the midfielder was the perfect way to cap off such an impressive showing.

The entire performance will have Chelsea fans very satisfied after a rough couple of months, but it's Fernandez' goal that everyone will be talking about coming out of the match and rightfully so, it was sublime. Just take a look at it below.

The goal sealed Chelsea's spot in the next round of the FA Cup. The club held on, despite a late goal from Moussa Diaby giving the home side a slight glimpse of hope, and with a League Cup final on the horizon, there's still a strong chance that the Blues will make it to two domestic finals.

Moving onto the next round, the Blues will, on paper, have a little easier of a task than the Champions League-chasing Aston Villa, when they take on Championship side Leeds United. The Yorkshire club beat Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday, with three goals in extra time handing them a 4-1 victory.

Leeds are currently chasing promotion back to the top flight, having been relegated last season, and they are sitting in third place right now, just a point away from the automatic promotion places. They might not be on the same level as Aston Villa right now, but if the last couple of years have shown us anything, it's that a Chelsea victory is never guaranteed, so Leeds will no doubt head into the tie with the belief that they can grab a result from the Blues.

Whoever wins, will pocket a lovely £225,000 for their troubles, which, considering the current financial issues at Stamford Bridge, both teams would happily take. After all the struggles that Chelsea have faced in the Premier League this year, currently sitting 11th in the table, reaching a league cup final and the latter stages of the FA Cup has at least offered fans of the club some joy away from league football.
