England’s Euro 2025 final triumph over Spain was the UK’s most-watched television moment of 2025, viewing figures have revealed.
The Lionesses successfully defended the trophy after coming from behind to beat tournament favourites Spain on penalties.
Chloe Kelly scored the winning penalty for the Lionesses, with Niamh Charles and Alex Greenwood also scoring in the shootout.
Hannah Hampton saved penalties from Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldentey, while Salma Paralluelo fired her penalty wide for Spain.
The popularity of women’s football has rapidly grown over the past few years due to the success of the Lionesses.
This has been reflected in the TV viewing figures for the Women’s Euro 2025 final.
The BBC have revealed their viewing figures for the Women’s Euro 2025 final, with the Lionesses’ success being the most-watched TV moment of 2025.
That is even before ITV have revealed their figures for the final.
A peak audience of 12.2 million viewers watched England beat Spain on penalties across all BBC platforms. This represented a 59% share of all TV watchers.
It was also revealed that the BBC’s TV coverage for the entire tournament was 22.1 million.
The team’s last major final, the 2023 FIFA World Cup against Spain, attracted a UK peak audience of 14.4 million.
Figures for the Euro 2025 final could potentially surpass this once ITV publish their numbers.
ITV previously drew their biggest figures of the year for England’s Euro 2025 semi-final victory over Italy.
The Lionesses’ victory in the semi-finals drew a peak audience of 10.2 million. ITVX had its biggest day of the year with 17.2m stream views for England vs Italy.
Support for England has continued to grow throughout the tournament. Their defeat to France drew in a peak of 2.6 million on ITV, while their victory over Wales attracted 4.6 million on BBC.
England’s win over Wales also drew more viewers than the men’s Club World Cup final involving Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, a 7.3 million peak audience tuned in to watch England’s stunning quarter-final win over Sweden on the BBC.
England fans can celebrate the team’s Euro 2025 success at the trophy parade which takes place on Tuesday, July 29th.
An open-top bus parade will run on the Mall in central London from 12.10pm.
It will end at the Queen Victoria Memorial outside Buckingham Palace at 12.30pm.
The Lionesses return to the UK on Monday where they have been invited to a ceremony at 10 Downing Street.
