Former Real Madrid and England forward Michael Owen has expressed his belief that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid is inevitable.
According to Owen, the Spanish giants’ clear intent to secure the Liverpool star’s services suggests that this transfer may be a matter of when, not if.
“The fact that Real Madrid have made clear their intentions to sign Trent Alexander Arnold leads me to believe that it is only a matter of time before he signs for them,” he wrote on Twitter.
Reports indicate that Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold stems from their vision of bolstering their defensive lineup with players of exceptional quality.
While no official agreement has been reached, Madrid’s ambition to bring the talented right-back to the Santiago Bernabeu is no secret.
Speculation surrounding this potential move has only grown, with many pointing to the lack of a contract extension at Liverpool as a possible factor driving the interest.
“If he had signed a contract extension, Madrid would not have made the move officially . Secret talks would have taken place. Huge news,” he added.
In recent developments, it has come to light that Real Madrid made an initial offer of €15 million to Liverpool in an attempt to finalise the deal during the winter transfer window.
However, the response from Anfield has been firm. Liverpool rejected the offer outright, standing their ground in the hope of convincing Alexander-Arnold to remain at the club.
Meanwhile, Owen’s perspective is shaped by his own experience of transitioning from Liverpool to Real Madrid. Back in 2004, Owen made headlines when he left Liverpool to join the Spanish club.
After spending his entire career in the Premier League, his move to Madrid was seen as a significant shift. Arriving at the Bernabeu as a highly regarded player, Owen knows firsthand the allure and challenges of such a high-profile transfer.
The parallels between Owen’s career trajectory and the current situation with Alexander-Arnold have not gone unnoticed.
Whether this move materialises in the near future remains to be seen, but the interest from Real Madrid is undeniably a significant development.
