Big season ahead

Toone was a catalyst for United in the 2023-2024 season, heling her team win the FA Cup.

She scored nine goals in 33 matches and was a key factor in her team’s success.

The attacking midfielder had a tough start to last season with the death of her father but fought back to help the team qualify for the Champions League, scoring eight times in total.

She also scored two goals as she played a huge role in England winning the Euros this summer.

United take on PSV Eindhoven tomorrow, aiming to secure their place in the Champions League and will look to compete with Chelsea for the Women’s Super League title.

Growing up

Speaking to the Irvine Times, Toone has pinpointed what she aims to improve on this season.

She elaborated, “I feel like I need to start growing up a little more. Yeah, I still see myself as a younger player, but that’s not the case any more.”

Toone added, “I’m turning 26 in September and I feel like I’ve got a lot of experience within the England team and at United as well.”

The England star is a double Euros champions and is entering her eighth season at the Leigh Sports Village.

Toone claimed, “I think it’s about using my experiences now and really stepping up and becoming a leader and helping the younger players come into the game, come into the teams, using what I’ve learned from different tournaments and different games as best I can now.”

New signings

United have secured the signatures of experienced Swedish stars Julia Zigiotti Olme and Fridolina Rolfo and Toone is delighted with how they have settled into the squad.

She claimed, “I think both of them fit really well into what we needed and, maybe last season, what we were lacking.”

The 26-year-old also stated that she was pleased with the consistency that she showed for England in the summer and this is something that she wants to build on at club level.

She finished, “I’ve definitely learned that being away with England, everything’s not always pretty and not how you want it to go, but it’s about finding that team togetherness, resilience and finding a way to win.”
