Eddie Howe watched on, the end of the ninety minutes showing Newcastle 4 Leicester 0.
The Foxes never able to threaten as United didn’t give them an inch.
Whilst at the other end of the pitch, Newcastle attacked and attacked, created chance after chance.
Eddie Howe’s side managing to take four of those many chances but on another day it could have been up towards double figures.
Eddie Howe reflecting on Newcastle 4 Leicester 0:
“A big win.
“A big win for a lot of reasons.
“I think this week with two home games and the importance of both games, to start well gives us a massive lift.
“It was important we responded to the Brentford performance in the right way and I thought we did.
“Right from the start of the game, I thought we looked engaged, mentally switched-on, able to give a really good athletic and technical performance.
“I thought we had a bit of everything today.
“Good attacking, good defending.
“I think there were a lot of positive responses to the disappointment of last week.
“I thought there was a lot of pressure on the players today and that wasn’t lost on me.
“You go from that performance last week, everything set up today for us to answer a lot of questions.
“But you have still got to deliver it and you are playing against a very dangerous team with a new manager.
“So it was a great response in that pressurised moment and good signs for us mentally, because you have got to deal with that pressure.
“The first goal was important because we’d knocked on the door with a number of chances and we hadn’t taken them.
“It was a good performance.
“The first goal was important.
“It took a well-worked set play to set the ball rolling and the second goal was important too, so we were able to express ourselves a little bit more.
“We are disappointed we haven’t been able to show that more this season.
“Today was one of our better performances.”
Eddie Howe asked about the performance from Bruno Guimaraes and his goal:
“He will be pleased.
“He played slightly further forward today.
“We are pleased with how he is performing.”
Eddie Howe asked about the performance from Jacob Murphy and his two goals:
“He is a really valuable player because wherever you put him, or whatever you ask him to do, he does it to the best of his ability.
“It was great to see him in those [goalscoring] positions.
“He is such a well-liked character.
“We are really happy with his contribution.”
Eddie Howe asked about injured goalkeeper Nick Pope:
“He saw the specialist [on Friday about his swollen knee] and the feedback is, that he is going to be out for around a month.
“So bad timing for us and for Nick, because there are a lot of games in that four week period.”
