Echeverri joins Leverkusen on loan | OneFootball

Claudio Echeverri has joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan for the 2025/26 season.

The Argentine midfielder signed for City in January 2024 but remained on loan at River Plate until February 2025 when he joined up with Pep Guardiola’s squad.

It followed a standout U-20 South American Championship campaign, where he led Argentina to second place, and a breakthrough into the River Plate first team, which included 48 senior appearances before moving to the Etihad Stadium.

The teenager featured twice for Pep Guardiola’s men before the end of the last domestic campaign, making his debut with a lively cameo in our FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace at Wembley.

He followed that up with another substitute appearance on the final day of the Premier League season away at Fulham, as City secured a top three finish.

Echeverri’s first goal for the Blues would follow this summer, when he curled home a delightful free-kick against Al-Ain in Atlanta during our FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

He was forced off with an injury at half-time, but his performance provided an exciting indication of the youngster’s bright future.

The 19-year-old will now gain further first-team experience in the German Bundesliga with Leverkusen.
