Manchester City have opted against triggering the release clause in the contract of Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze, new details have indicated.

The England international has been at the centre of numerous Manchester City transfer conversations throughout this summer, with the Premier League champions eyeing up fresh recruits in the centre of the park.

Alongside interest in Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, there was a feeling in some quarters that Etihad Stadium officials could turn back to the transfer market in the coming weeks in light of recent first-team developments at the club.

Julian Alvarez’s big-money exit to Atletico Madrid in a deal worth a total of €95 million was followed up by an injury blow sustained by Oscar Bobb in training, ruling the Norway international out for up to four months.

But it appears as though should Manchester City wish to turn towards Eberechi Eze as a potential new signing this summer, they will have to negotiate directly with Crystal Palace, who have stood firm on valuations for other leading players this summer.

As per the information of journalist Bobby Manzi, the release clause of Eberechi Eze at Crystal Palace expired at 17:00 (BST) on Friday evening, with no club interested choosing to activate the payment to secure the player’s services.

The report points out that the 26-year-old had attracted interest from the likes of Premier League champions Manchester City this summer, but with the release clause no longer active, it appears unlikely that the player will be heading to the Etihad Stadium at this stage.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
