Roma are reportedly closing in on the signing of Artem Dovbyk from Girona after the Ukraine international rejected a new approach from Atletico Madrid.

The Giallorossi have been working hard to beat their Spanish opponents for the 27-year-old striker, who is ready to take a step forward in his career after an impressive season with Girona, where he scored 24 goals and provided eight assists in 36 La Liga games last term.

Dovbyk has agreed to sign a four-year contract with Roma worth around €3m net per season plus add-ons, whilst the club have proposed €32m plus €5m in add-ons to Girona, close to matching his €40m release clause.

Page 16 of today’s Corriere dello Sport details how Roma are now in the final stretch of securing Dovbyk after he rejected an approach from Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone on Friday, only wanting to join the Giallorossi.

The 27-year-old striker was not used in the pre-season friendly against Espanyol on Saturday and his agent started following Roma directors Lina Souloukou and Florent Ghisolfi on social media, small hints of his impending move. He is expected to arrive in Trigoria at some point next week to complete the move.
