Borussia Dortmund reclaimed the upper hand in the Bundesliga title race on Saturday with a 6-1 rout over FC Köln.

Raphaël Guerreiro set the hosts on their way back to the summit within the opening quarter of an hour at Signal Iduna Park by meeting Donyell Malen’s cross from the right-hand side.

Poacher turned provider barely two minutes later as Guerreiro teed up Sébastien Haller to fire a close-range finish into the roof of Marvin Schwäbe’s net.

Marco Reus added a third shortly after the half-hour mark as the captain marked his return from illness with a sumptuous effort into the top left-hand corner.

A fourth followed for Edin Terzić’s side on 36 minutes as Malen produced an impressive solo effort after receiving Niklas Süle’s downfield pass.

But the visitors reduced their deficit shortly before half-time when Davie Selke had the beating of Alexander Meyer at his near post from a tight angle.

Haller doubled his tally in the final third of the game with a pouncing follow-up after Schwäbe had kept out a Mahmoud Dahoud free kick.

A sixth straight home win was capped off just a minute later as Reus netted his own brace with a tidy effort from another Malen assist.

Dortmund now sit of a point ahead of Bayern Munich in the the table ahead of the defending champions’ trip to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
