Reading have endured a so far successful spell under Ruben Selles, and considering the club's situation, there is a sense of togetherness between the manager and the fans.

The Spaniard has recently been linked with the vacant Cardiff City job, after WalesOnline reported his name has been discussed to fill the hot seat in South Wales.

Reading fans will not enjoy this news.

Taking into account off-field issues with the ownership, Ruben Selles has done a brilliant job of keeping the togetherness between fans with his style of football.

After joining the Royals in 2023, many of the Ding's faithful would be supposedly heartbroken if Selles did depart the club.

Many will be pleading for the 41-year-old to stay and not give up on the journey he's started at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

FLW's Reading fan pundit, Johnny Hunt, would only say one thing to Selles after we asked him: If you could send one message to your club's current manager, what would it be and why?

"The message to the manager is, in the words of Kate Bush, don't give up. He's been through so much with the club, and we know other clubs will be interested in him for the manager and person he is, being charismatic and he's an all-round good manager.

"He's doing a good job in these circumstances, if the club was actually run properly it would probably be phenomenal.

"I just want him to stick with us and be part of rebuilding the club for the future and take it to a new level and hopefully a new era, much like Alan Pardew did in the early 2000s. He set the club up for it's most successful time under Brian McDermott.

"Selles could be the one to do that for us, he gets the fanbase, he understands the identity of the club, and he gets the pressure from the fan frustration at what everyone has gone through.

"It's a mutual respect. He backs us, we back him. We're all in this together."

Selles could be committed to the Royals' quest

You wouldn't blame Selles for jumping ship after the sheer amount of incompetence going on behind the scenes.

But after the announcement on Monday that a new potential buyer is in exclusivity talks with Reading owner Dai Yongge, Selles may stay put and see out his journey.

His stature at the club has grown significantly, and he has become a key leading figure, which is saying something after only being at the Royals for just over a year.

He seems very loyal to both the fans and the club, and if Reading finally have success in a buyer securing the club, Selles may opt to stay.

He's started a journey which he could be eager to finish, but if off-field issues continue, the likelihood will leave Selles with no choice.
