Chelsea’s season is ratting towards it’s conclusion, and the majority of the judgment on how well Enzo Maresca has done will come when all the games are done and dusted and the final place in the league decided.

But counter to what we were hearing yesterday from top source Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, today there is some chatter that Maresca could be in a bit of trouble when all is said and done.

CaughtOffside have an exclusive report that claims that “there is some degree of divisions among senior figures at Chelsea” about how to proceed when the campaign is over. There are “serious reservations about his style of play.”

There are some specific concerns mentioned:

“CaughtOffside understands there are concerns about how slow Chelsea’s build-up play has been, while the considerable dip in form from star player Cole Palmer has also raised eyebrows.”

It’s all very reminiscent of last season, where Mauricio Pochettino’s future split the owners, and eventually saw him removed.

Maresca likely safe barring total collapse

We’ve always been in the camp that has said there is no way Maresca is getting sacked, barring a total collapse to end the season. After years of chaos, it’s imperative for those making the decisions that they don’t have another one and done coach. Even the marginal improvement of a place or two in the league plus reaching a Conference League final should be enough for them to save face by keeping him in place.

Even those who are inclined to sack him and those who don’t like his style of play would likely rather suck it up and see how it goes next season rather than suffer the embarrassment of blowing the whole thing up.

Unless we lose every game from now until the end of the season, we think he’s safe, despite this talk of “division.”
