It is no secret that FC Barcelona have one of the most talented squads in world football. From potential Ballon d’Or challengers to elite technicians, the Catalan giants have it all. However, that also tends to attract some unwanted attention towards Barcelona.

Many clubs begin to keep a special eye on certain players within the team and are looking to pounce at the first sight of unease. Such is the nature of the footballing world, and every top team in the world wants to have the best players possible.

However, most players of such high quality are considered to be untouchable at Barcelona. The club reportedly aims to protect them as much as possible and retain their services for as many years as they can.

Reduced minutes for Gavi this season

Certain players, however, do have the tendency to be attracted to such external attention if it promises them more playing time. At Barcelona, especially right now, there is a certain player who has seen his role be diminished this season and be a shadow of the importance he had within the team previously.

Gavi, a former Golden Boy winner and a player who made his return from an ACL injury this season, could not fully reinstate himself back into the team. Instead, the 20-year-old midfielder has been used sparingly by Hansi Flick, just not too often as a regular starter.

Diego Simeone wants the Barcelona midfielder

Now, as per Fichajes, this has been seen as an opportunity by Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone. He reportedly has always liked Gavi’s profile and even the fight with which it plays, believing that he would fit perfectly into his Atletico Madrid side.

However, even with such an interest from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona remain fully convinced by Gavi’s quality and future trajectory. It was understandably a difficult season for him due to his injury, but he has gradually seen his involvement improve as well.

At the same time, if Atletico Madrid truly want to pursue his signature, they would have to convince not just Barcelona but the player himself as well. For the Catalan giants, the offer would have to be something that could convince the club, and Gavi would need to be presented with an attractive sports project as well.

At the moment, however, Gavi will be enjoying winning the La Liga title with Barcelona. After an intense game against Espanyol, La Blaugrana emerged victorious and finally sealed the league title.
