AC Milan have one less competitor in the event they try to hire Massimiliano Allegri as their next head coach, a report claims.

Allegri has been without a job since leaving Juventus after their Coppa Italia win late last season. He has been linked with various jobs, and the Rome-based paper Il Messaggero stated earlier this week that he is being considered by AS Roma and Milan.

The Giallorossi are looking Claudio Ranieri’s successor, given that he will make the transition into more of a managerial role at the end of the campaign, thus relinquishing the head coach position.

Allegri not a Roma target

According to Di Marzio, Allegri’s name is not on the list of candidates. There are no ongoing talks with the former Juve coach, nor have there ever been, and the same applies to Stefano Pioli who has been mentioned.

At the moment, the names that are on the list as Francesco Farioli, Patrick Vieira, Gian Piero Gasperini, Xavi and Cesc Fabregas. The latter is however also tempted by the court of Bayer Leverkusen, who will say goodbye to Xabi Alonso.

Xavi meanwhile was in Rome yesterday with his family for a social and personal event, but there has been no contact with him yet. He is highly regarded by Ranieri.
