According to journalist Mike McGrath, the next two days are crucial to any agreement being struck between the two clubs.

It was exclusively revealed by FLW that the Sky Blues have set an asking price of £15 million for the 24-year-old after his impressive first year at the CBS Arena.

Rudoni joined Coventry last summer in a deal worth a reported £5 million, arriving from Huddersfield Town after their relegation to League One.

Southampton are in talks to sign Rudoni from Coventry, with it understood that the next two days are key to those discussions.

The Saints could be set for a major windfall which could offer them the funds to complete the purchase of the midfielder.

It has been reported that the Hampshire outfit have already rejected one offer from West Ham for Mateus Fernandes.

It’s believed that Southampton value the 21-year-old at a similar level to Roméo Lavia, who was sold to Chelsea in 2023 for a fee in the region of £58 million.

The future of Fernandes could have a role to play in the Saints’ pursuit of the Coventry star, who proved a key part of the side under Frank Lampard last season.

Rudoni contributed nine goals and 12 assists as the Sky Blues reached the play-off semi-finals with a fifth-place finish in the league.

Southampton’s summer signings

Southampton have added two players to their first-team squad since suffering relegation from the Premier League last season.

Damion Downs and Joshua Quarshie have both arrived from the Bundesliga, with the pair featuring in Will Still’s side for their opening day victory over Wrexham last weekend.

However, the sale of Fernandes could lead to more activity in the market, if a deal can be agreed with the Hammers.

Next up for Still’s team is a trip to face Ipswich Town on 17 August in a 12pm kick-off.

Fernandes deal will likely open the door for Rudoni push

Coventry should be looking to hold onto Rudoni this summer given his importance to Lampard’s side.

But if Southampton agree a major deal with West Ham for Fernandes, then they will be in the market for someone of that calibre and they will have money to spend.

That both of these deals have emerged as intensely as they have at the same time could be more than just a coincidence.

Rudoni showed last year the kind of impact he can have at Championship level, meaning he’d be a great addition at Southampton and his departure would be a real blow for their promotion rivals.
