Liverpool are fighting very hard to retain star defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires at the end of the season, at which point a move to Real Madrid is being touted.

The 26-year-old has reportedly rejected multiple contract offers from the Reds already and as such Real Madrid believe that they will get their man come summer of 2025.

However, as reported earlier this week, Los Blancos tried to bring forward Alexander-Arnold’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu this month itself with a cheeky approach to Liverpool which was rejected.

All the details

Now, journalist Mario Cortegana have come forward with the details about the approach that Real Madrid made to sign Alexander-Arnold in January itself.

As per the report, the reigning Spanish and European champions were confident enough to call Liverpool to sign the right-back in January itself because they already know that he wants to join the club and will not renew his contract at Anfield.

The belief within Real Madrid is that they have completely convinced Alexander-Arnold of their project and as such are increasingly confident of him arriving.

As such, they made an approach to Liverpool to speed things up and sign him in the winter itself, but Cortegana mentions that there was no official bid made nor any transfer fee mentioned.

Instead, it was more of a soft approach wherein Real Madrid asked Liverpool: “Would you consider selling Alexander-Arnold now?” and the answer they received was a “No.”

Even though the Reds will lose one of their biggest assets for free in the summer, they have refused to sell the 26-year-old and will continue to try and convince him to stay, with a new renewal proposal already in the works.

As for Real Madrid, they have no plans to sign anyone else at this moment and if not this month, they believe they will get Alexander-Arnold in the summer.
