RANGERS… 3(Hagi 6, Propper 65, Danilo 81)
CELTIC… 0
It was a rarer day or derby disappointment for Celtic as they lost 3-0 to Rangers at Ibrox.
Although the Hoops looked lively in the opening exchanges, it was the home side who opened the scoring in the sixth minute with what was their first attack.
Picking up possession from a slack pass in the middle of the park, rangers drove to the edge of the area where the ball was laid off to Ianis Hagi, and his low left-foot shot ended up in the back of the net.
Rangers came close to adding to their lead in the 13th minute when his shot took a deflection off Liam Scales and hit the bar.
Scales then played a long ball over the top of the Rangers defence, which almost found Kyogo, while Daizen Maeda cut in from the left and hit a shot that was off target as the Hoops looked to find a way back into the game.
Celtic’s best chance of the half didn’t come until added time, when a Reo Hatate snapshot from a corner was well-saved by Liam Kelly.
In the second-half, Celtic did have the ball in the net when Kyogo latched on to a ball over the top from Paulo Bernardo.
The striker took a touch and then lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net, but his goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
On 65 minutes, Rangers doubled their lead when Robin Propper slid in at the back post to fire the ball home from a corner.
And with nine minutes remaining, substitute Danilo made it 3-0 to the home side with a close-range finish.
It was a disappointing start to 2025 for Celtic, who will now look to get back to winning ways when they play host to St Mirren this Sunday.
