Derby County are interested in a loan move for Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, as they prepare for their first season back in the Championship under Paul Warne.

The Rams want to sign Iversen on loan from Leicester this summer, according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon account.

The Danish stopper was on loan at Stoke City for the second half of the 2024-25 season, where he kept seven clean sheets in 18 Championship appearances for the Potters.

He is set for an increase in wages following Leicester's promotion back to the Premier League, as per Nixon's report, but Derby hope that they can afford to cover enough of his salary to get the deal done.

County boss Paul Warne is preparing his side for their first season back in the Championship after two seasons away, following automatic promotion from League One last term.

Derby County are in the market for a new goalkeeper following Joe Wildsmith exit

The Rams are looking for a new number one this summer, despite conceding just 37 goals in League One last season - the fewest in the entire division.

First-choice goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith was released at the end of the season, after keeping 20 clean sheets in 40 appearances and winning the Golden Glove award for the third tier.

36-year-old Scott Loach also retired at the end of the season, limiting Derby's goalkeeping options even further ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Derby have already been linked with an ambitious move for former Arsenal and Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan. The Australian spent last season playing for AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, and kept 13 clean sheets in the Eredivisie.

Daniel Iversen would be an excellent signing for Derby County

Signing Iversen on loan from Leicester would be an excellent addition for a Derby side that is built on defensive resoluteness under Warne.

The 26-year-old made 12 appearances in the Premier League for the Foxes during the 2022/23 season, playing against Manchester City and Liverpool as well as keeping a clean sheet against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

He enjoyed an impressive run of form with Stoke at the end of the Championship season, keeping three consecutive clean sheets as the Potters finished the campaign with three straight wins.

Iversen spent the previous season on loan at Preston North End, and kept 13 clean sheets in the Championship on his way to being named Player of the Year at Deepdale in 2022 by both his teammates and the supporters.

While Paul Warne now has four League One promotions on his CV with former club Rotherham United and Derby, his Championship record is not quite as impressive.

The 51-year-old has been relegated at the end of every season he has been in charge of in the Championship, although he did leave Rotherham 8th in the second tier after nine games when he left the club to move to Pride Park in 2022.

After just missing out on the play-offs in his first season at Derby, he won promotion at the end of the 2023/24 campaign after finishing second in what was his first full season as manager of the club.

He will hope that signing Iversen can help Derby build on promotion back to the Championship next season, as they look to re-establish themselves in the second tier.
