Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, recently addressed the possibility of Neymar making a return to the club. He gave his thoughts on the situation, making it clear where he stands on the matter.

Deco acknowledged Neymar’s talent and the legacy he left at Barcelona, but he believes that a return is not something the club should be considering at this moment.

According to him, Neymar’s main focus should be on rediscovering his happiness in football, and for now, Brazil seems like the best place for him to do so.

“It’s not a financial issue. First of all, I think Neymar has to try to be happy again, to enjoy football and I don’t see a better place for him at the moment than Brazil. Santos. His club,” he began saying.

In recent weeks, Andre Cury, who represents Vitor Roque and has close ties to Neymar, made a statement about the Brazilian’s interest in coming back to Barcelona.

Despite these claims, Deco made it clear that he does not see Barcelona pursuing Neymar at this time.

While he expressed his support for Neymar and his desire to see the forward playing with joy again, he emphasised that Barcelona has different priorities.

“I support Neymar. I want him to be happy and his team needs him. Everyone who likes football needs to see a happy Neymar,” said Deco.

Speaking in the possibilities

Deco concluded by recognising Neymar’s achievements at Barcelona but also highlighted the reality that football does not always offer second chances.

While it is impossible to rule out any possibility completely, he firmly believes that now is not the right time for either Barcelona or Neymar to entertain such a move.

“Ney is an important player. I think that if one day a situation like this were to arise, it would be good for him and good for us.

“Neymar was a phenomenon who passed through here. He did what he did. He won what he won. Sometimes these stories don’t repeat themselves. They can repeat themselves, you never know.

“But I think that this is not the time for Barcelona to think about Neymar, nor for Neymar to think about that,” he concluded.
