Liverpool kickstarted their Carabao Cup defence with an encouraging 5-1 win over West Ham United on Wednesday.
Braces from Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, with Mohamed Salah netting the other has set up a fourth-round tie away at Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Reds have won every game this season barring their disappointing home defeat to Nottingham Forest, in what has been an encouraging start to life under Arne Slot.
It's the second year running where Liverpool have defeated The Hammers 5-1 in the competition as Slot's men have their eyes on winning the Carabao Cup for an eleventh time.
Liverpool went behind on Wednesday night courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from Jarell Quansah.
Diogo Jota latched on to Federico Chiesa's bicycle kick attempt minutes later to give the hosts the perfect response before eventually running riot after the interval, with Edson Alvarez also being dismissed for Julian Lopetegui's side.
Despite an encouraging night at Anfield, Jamie Carragher believes Darwin Nunez should be held accountable for a needless action he made.
The Uruguayan hacked into former Liverpool player Danny Ings despite the West Ham man posing no threat to The Reds as he was seemingly heading nowhere with the ball.
Carragher, who was on commentary duty for Sky Sports, expressed his fury at Nunez' decision that fortunately came to no avail but should West Ham have scored, questions would have been asked of Nunez.
"Yeah, I mean we’ve already seen one at the other end but Nunez there….honestly. It’s the one thing in football I’ll never be able to get my head around when I see someone just run straight into the back of someone, going absolutely nowhere.
“I think there should be a fine for that, honestly I do. If I was a manager I would fine players for that," Carragher said.
