Toulouse FC president Damien Comolli has announced he will leave his post, as reported by L’Equipe. The former Liverpool FC Sporting Director told club staff this Wednesday that he will no longer head the Ligue 1 club. Comolli joined Toulouse FC in 2020 in the aftermath of the club takeover by RedBird Capital Partners. During Comolli’s mandate as president, Toulouse returned to Ligue 1 in 2022. Le TéFéCé won the Coupe de France the following year, handing them an Europa League berth the season after. Toulouse notably defeated Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the group phase.

“This is surely the most difficult letter I have had to write in my career. This decision breaks my heart the most”, Comolli said in a mail sent to Toulouse FC employees this Wednesday. Comolli’s wife – Toulouse FC’s head of sporting strategy and culture, Selinay Gurcenc – is also set to leave the Ligue 1 side. The outlet understands that the former Liverpool and Tottenham executive has caught the attention of Juventus FC. Toulouse FC confirmed in a statement that Comolli’s exit is motivated “by a personal will to open a new professional chapter.”

The Serie A giants are set to offer Comolli a “central role” in a new organizational chart alongside former Italy international centre-back and Juventus great Giorgio Chiellini. It remains to be seen whether RedBird Capital Partners will continue as Toulouse FC owners amid interest from United Arab Emirates-based fund World Gate Investment. Toulouse FC added that “the implementation of the next governance is already underway. The club’s shareholders and management are actively working to define a new organizational structure.”
