Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted it will be ‘a problem’ if the club allow Marc Guehi to run down his contract.
Guehi has entered the final 12 months of his deal at Palace and there has been no progress on a potential extension.
The England international has been subject of approaches from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent windows, while Liverpool are also interested in signing the centre-back.
The latter are reluctant to meet Palace’s current asking price for Guehi, who will be available on a free transfer in 2026 as things stand.
Guehi has been a key figure for the South Londoners in recent years, establishing himself in the England squad and helping the Eagles to FA Cup and Community Shield victories.
Palace do not want to lose the defender but Parish has admitted a resolution must be found in the upcoming weeks.
“Of course, for players of that calibre to leave on a free, it is a problem,” Parish said after Crystal Palace’s victory in the Community Shield on Sunday.
“We had one bid last summer but Joachim Andersen went to Fulham and we couldn’t afford to lose both of them. We then had another bid in January but that was a difficult situation, and the player had a point of view on that one.
“So we just have to see what happens but it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”
