Cristiano Ronaldo, fresh from lifting the UEFA Nations League trophy with Portugal, had some thoughtful words for one of football’s rising stars, Lamine Yamal of Barcelona and Spain.
After Portugal’s win over Spain in the final, the Real Madrid legend made sure to highlight Yamal’s potential, but also stressed the importance of not putting too much pressure on him too soon.
Ronaldo was quick to praise the young Barcelona forward. “He’s only 17, and already he’s showing incredible talent. He’s going to win a lot of titles, both collective and individual. He is a phenomenon,” said the Portuguese icon.
“But we have to leave him alone, that’s what I ask. He has a very long career ahead of him and will surely win the Nations League many times.”
Barcelona fans have long known that Yamal is a rare gem, and it is telling that even a figure like Ronaldo recognises his potential.

While the match did not end in Spain’s favour, Yamal once again showed flashes of brilliance that reminded everyone why Barcelona are betting big on him.
Ronaldo also stood behind Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, who decided to take Yamal off during extra time.
The substitution sparked debate, especially among fans hoping to see the youngster make a difference late in the game.
But Ronaldo defended the decision, saying, “Your coach is a great professional. He’s already brought success to Spain. I’m not a coach, but I trust he made that choice with the team’s best interest in mind.
“What more do you want me to say? If the coach made the decision, it was because he thought it was the best thing to improve his team,” he added.
Despite being a former Real Madrid star, Ronaldo’s words reflect just how much respect Yamal has earned in world football.
