The ex-Everton chief was named as Sky Blues boss during the previous campaign, and he made an instant impact, as the side went on a fantastic run to reach the play-offs.

Whilst it ultimately ended in disappointment as Coventry lost to Sunderland over two legs, there’s no denying the progress made under Lampard, and the challenge is to push for promotion once again.

Coventry City make an offer for Fulham’s Martial Godo

The West Midlands outfit have enjoyed a decent start to this season, picking up four points from their opening two games, but Lampard clearly feels that reinforcements are needed to help the group.

And, Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has revealed on X that Coventry have made a move to sign Godo from Fulham. He explained that an offer has been submitted by the Championship side, with the Cottagers weighing it up.

Crucially, he adds that Godo is looking for first-team football at this stage of his career, which seems unlikely to come with the Londoners.

Godo has previous EFL experience with Wigan Athletic, though, and could end up being a shrewd addition considering the limited options in wide areas currently at Lampard's disposal.

Coventry are next in action at home to QPR on Saturday afternoon.

Martial Godo could add unpredictability to Coventry City’s attack

The 22-year-old has had a remarkable rise in his short career so far, as he started out in non-league with Dartford and Margate before being picked up by Fulham.

Most of his minutes since have come at U23 level, but he joined Wigan for the 2023/24 season, scoring four goals and registering five assists in 30 League One games.

Godo returned to Fulham last season as part of Marco Silva’s squad, and he made two Premier League appearances for the club.

But, he is way down the pecking order at Craven Cottage, and, at this stage of his development, Godo needs to be playing week in, week out.

So, a move to Coventry would make sense, and he would give Lampard a quick, direct option down the left flank, and he is also capable of featuring in other attacking roles if needed.

Whilst the 5-3 win at Derby was proof of the attacking talent that Coventry boast, they could still do with one more option, and Godo would add flair, skill and unpredictability in the final third, which could be vital over the course of a demanding Championship season as they try to push for a top two spot.
