The two Championship outfits picked up where left off from the first leg in Coventry, playing with plenty of intensity but lacking a cutting edge in the final third.

Coventry looked to have carved out the chance they needed to open the scoring in the tie, but Jamie Allen somehow scuffed his shot from point-blank range to spare Middlesbrough blushes.

The Sky Blues finally found the first goal of the affair just before the hour mark thanks to Gustavo Hamer who took advantage of Boro keeper Zack Steffen off of his line, curling home over the heads of the defence to snatch the lead for the visitors.

Hamer’s goal would be all the visitors needed to hold on and book their spot in the final, where they will be 90 minutes away from a return to the Premier League, where they haven’t been in more than two decades.
