AC Milan tried everything to avoid the postponement of the game against Bologna. In the hours before the decision, in fact, Paolo Scaroni offered to donate a generous €250k to the flood victims to play the game behind closed doors.

The decision made by Lega Serie A, along with the Bologna mayor, has upset many fans as it clearly sets a very dangerous precedent. Acknowledging that public safety was a concern, Milan tried to get the game played behind closed doors or even in a neutral venue, but to no avail.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Mediaset), before the final vote in the Lega took place, Scaroni offered to donate €250k to the flood victims. This is half of the amount that Bologna would have collected from ticket sales from the game, with the Rossoneri clearly going above and beyond to find a solution.

Furthermore, as the newspaper adds, Scaroni abstained from voting on the matter even though he’s a member of the Lega. This is because he was obviously biased, but it still shows the respectful attitude that Milan had throughout all of this.

Bologna, meanwhile, never even moved so much as an inch and decided to protect their financials instead of finding a solution. And now a dangerous precedent has been set…
