The window has probably closed for AC Milan to sign Nuno Tavares from Lazio, and it, once again, is due to finances. However, attempts were made in January to sign the player.
It is nothing new for Milan to miss out on players due to finances. Sometimes, the club get there too late, or perhaps even too early. Either way, it seems like the Tavares dream has probably faded, and once again, money is at the root.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoneri attempted to make a move in January for the wing-back ‘before the corporate revolution’, as Milan News relays. This, perhaps, would explain why the club were so open to potentially parting ways with Theo Hernandez – especially for the reported fee of around €40 million.
Looking forward, reports have suggested that Tavares’ name still remains on a list of potential replacements, but it will be a huge challenge for the club if they are to bring the Portuguese to the club.
The report states that the Laziali will only pay €5m over the course of five years for the wing-back, a steal in the current market, but the capital club will not allow him to leave for anything less than €60m.
In other words, the opportunity is long, long gone.
