Mike Maignan has very clear ideas about his future, and hopes to convince the AC Milan leadership in the lat five games.
The most important of the remaining matches for Milan is obviously the Coppa Italia final in 13 days, the game in which the club want to bring home the second trophy of the season and secure a Europa League spot.
As this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via SpazioMilan) reports, nobody is more motivated to achieve this objective than Maignan, who also wants to show those in charge that he should be part of the Milan of the future.
The renewal situation still remains to be clarified, though. The last meeting between the parties was a few months ago and had led to a verbal agreement. Then, his performance levels made the Rossoneri management pause for reflection, as he no longer seemed to have that ‘magic’ touch.
Maignan is still waiting and hoping. The last few games will be decisive, but at the moment there is enough confidence that an agreement will arrive, one that will see the Frenchman extend his deal expiring in 2026.
He should earn just below €5m net per season, but the alternative would be a summer sale given that his contract expires in just over 12 months. A free transfer is the one option Milan want to avoid, so a renewal or a farewell at the end of the season are the only two routes.
Geoffrey Moncada spoke fairly recently about the renewal situations, including that of Theo Hernandez who has the same deadline, and he revealed the club’s firm line.
“The renewals are very positive. We’ve worked well, thanks to the club, and we’ve done everything to extend contracts with the players. The important thing is to have control over the players,” he said.
“We can never afford to lose them on a free transfer. We work hard, and it seems to me that the players are very happy to stay with us.”
