Corinthians have fully settled their outstanding debt with Flamengo for the transfer of right-back Matheuzinho, according to UOL. The São Paulo-based club completed the payment this week, ending a saga that had dragged on since the agreement was first made earlier in 2024.

The original deal, finalised in February, saw Corinthians acquire 60% of Matheuzinho’s economic rights from Flamengo for €4 million, which translated to roughly R$21.5 million at the time. Payment terms allowed the sum to be split across five instalments due by 2026.

However, by early 2025 only two instalments—totalling around R$8 million and both paid late—had reached Flamengo. The remaining debt, about R$13.5 million, lingered unpaid until Corinthians’ commercial partner Brax, which handles the club's advertising boards, intervened. The Brax contribution made it possible for Corinthians to clear the outstanding balance directly with Flamengo.

This agreement was confirmed in Flamengo’s recent quarterly financial report, which recorded the transaction and the regularisation of the debt. By paying off the remainder, Corinthians avoided further contractual penalties or escalation of late fees and closed the financial chapter with their Rio de Janeiro rivals.

Matheuzinho, who has become a regular starter for Corinthians since making the move, is under contract with the club until 2028. The timely resolution of this payment assures all parties of business stability and removes a potential distraction as the season unfolds.
