It has been a troubling few days in the Viola camp following Edoardo Bove’s on-pitch collapse during the Serie A match against Inter on Sunday. The 22-year-old remains in intensive care, but has been awake and alert since Monday.
Bove spoke to his Fiorentina teammates at the beginning of the week and reportedly gave his blessing for the game to go ahead as originally scheduled.
Bove is, of course, not included in today’s squad, and is replaced by Riccardo Sottil in the line-up. Yacine Adli also drops to the bench, while Luca Ranieri comes in, which likely means Lucas Martinez Quarta starting in defensive midfield.

Empoli, meanwhile, have named 18-year-old centre-back Lorenzo Tosto and 20-year-old Luca Marianucci in their back three.
There is also room for Luca Belardinelli in midfield. Emmanuel Ekong and Ola Solbakken come into the attacking unit, while Sebastiano Esposito leads the line.
Fiorentina: Terracciano; Dodo, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Gosens; Martinez Quarta, Cataldi; Colpani, Beltran, Sottil; Kean.
Empoli: Seghetti; Marianucci, Ismajli, Tosto; Sambia, Belardinelli, Henderson, Cacace; Solbakken, Ekong; Esposito.
