Nearly four years and 165 appearances for the Tractor Boys later, the captain has left Portman Road.

He helped lead this special group of Ipswich players to something that he and none of the fans would've expected upon his arrival from Middlesbrough in 2021.

Back-to-back promotions that took them up to the Premier League cemented everyone involved with Town's first-team as legends forever, none more so than the skipper.

Things didn't work out brilliantly once they reached the summit, but that achievement will never be taken away from them.

Morsy has left Ipswich following the club's relegation. The Egyptian international has joined Middle Eastern side Kuwait SC, but not without saying a proper goodbye to the Town faithful.

In an Instagram post, the 33-year-old said: "Undoubtedly this has been the best spell of my career and life. I came to the club in 2021 in a challenging place mentally, with lots going on, and I think that showed in my performances during my first few months here.

"But you never gave up on me and supported me unconditionally, showing me so much love. Me and my family will always be grateful for that...

"Thank you to everyone who sacrificed so much and pushed through all the boundaries in the pursuit of success. To a special group of men who achieved a special accomplishment - you will all forever be in my heart.

"So all that's left is to say a huge thank you to the fans and thank you to my teammates, the manager, his coaching staff and everyone at the training ground, who have all put up with me for the last few years.

"We made history and I'm confident the club will continue to do so. Look after yourselves and keep Running Towards Adversity. All the best, Skip."

His teammates will be sad to see their leader go. Conor Chaplin, who has been on this sensational Suffolk journey with Morsy the whole time, commented: "Should be proud of what you've done for this club. Congrats on an incredible stint mate x."

Star left-back Leif Davis was a little more simple in his response to the Egyptian's post. "My brother," said the defender.

Meanwhile, striker Ali Al Hamadi wrote: "Don't make them like this anymore.", whilst more of his former teammates such as Massimo Luongo, Dara O'Shea and Cameron Burgess all sent emoji-only responses too detailing their affection for their former skipper.

Morsy will forever be loved by everyone connected with Ipswich Town, especially the Portman Road faithful.

Having been appointed captain just a few months into his Town tenure, he was a consistent figure before and during Kieran McKenna's magical run in charge of the club.

To think that he started 86 of the 92 games that Ipswich played across their two second-placed seasons in 2022/23 and 2023/24 is an outstanding testament to his durability and overall quality; characteristics that will be missed next season and moving forward.

An excellent servant to the club, and one of the most successful captains in their recent history, Morsy will always be remembered fondly in Suffolk for his exceptional four years of service.
