Confirmed: Freiburg sign promising winger | OneFootball

SC Freiburg have completed the capture of 19-year-old winger Cyriaque Irié from French Ligue 2 outfit ESTAC Troyes.

The length of Irié’s contract with Freiburg has not been disclosed.

“Cyriaque is very talented and possesses great foundational qualities. He is blessed with good pace, is exciting in terms of his physical attributes and demonstrates a beneficial attitude when out of possession. He can operate on either flank but has already played as a central forward as well,” said Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach.

“We have been keeping tabs on his progress since his Dijon days and are really pleased to be able to continue to develop his abilities in all areas together further. It goes without saying that Cyriaque will be giving all the time he needs to adapt, since the step up to playing in the Bundesliga is a big one. However, we have every faith that he can achieve this with us.”

Irié, who was recently handed his first senior call-up to the Burkina Faso national team, sees the move as a major step forward in his career.

“This is a great move for my development. The club and head coach Julian Schuster are committed to integrating young players, which is very important to me. From my first conversations with the coach, we talked about Freiburg’s collective defending style and overall approach. I know it will be tough, but that’s normal. I’m young and ready to learn from everyone around me.”
