The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona have shifted focus amid their ongoing search for reinforcements in the final third for next season.
That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, amongst others, who have confirmed that the Blaugrana no longer consider Liverpool standout Luis Díaz as their priority signing.
Colombian international Díaz had of course long been named as Barca’s chief target to reinforce the left flank in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Owing to a combination of Liverpool’s steep asking price, and the efforts of Nico Williams to engineer a move to the Camp Nou, though, it is the latter who has reemerged as first-choice in the eyes of Deco and co.
Nico’s representative, Félix Tainta, held a meeting with Deco late last week, during which it was made clear that the Athletic Club winger is desperate to link up with Barcelona.
And this message, evidently, has had the desired effect.
As per a report from journalist Matteo Moretto:
‘Nico Williams is once again at the top of Barcelona’s shortlist for the winger spot. Recent contacts with Nico’s agent have been positive, and the parties are expected to speak again in the coming days.’
