Jamaica international Leon Bailey is set to miss around for weeks at the start of the 2025-26 Serie A season after picking up an injury during his first training session after joining Roma from Aston Villa, reports confirm.

Confirmed: Roma to be without Bailey for four weeks

Bailey was forced to withdraw from his first training session with Roma immediately after completing his move to Roma on loan with an option to buy from Aston Villa for a total cost in the region of €24m.

The Giallorossi later confirmed that the 28-year-old had suffered a ‘myotendinous injury of the right rectus femoris’, and that he would require further diagnostic tests to understand the full extent of the injury.

According to updates from multiple outlets including Sky Sport Italia, Roma have since learned that Bailey will be out of action for a period of around four weeks.

That means he will miss out on next weekend’s Serie A clash against newly-promoted Pisa, and potentially the league matches against Torino and archrivals Lazio after the September international break as well.

He already missed Roma’s opening game of the 2025-26 season: A 1-0 win at home against Vincenzo Italiano’s Bologna thanks to a second-half strike from fellow summer signing Wesley Franca.
