As Como prepare to host Roma in Matchday 16 of Serie A, manager Cesc Fàbregas shared his thoughts on his team’s form, their defensive struggles, and the importance of Andrea Belotti.
Speaking to DAZN, Fabregas addressed the issues facing Como, who enter the clash 18th in the league table.
“We’ve conceded too many goals this season,” began the Spaniard.
“The strange thing is that we don’t allow many chances, yet we still suffer too many goals. It’s not always down to bad luck—it’s more a matter of personality than tactics or football.”
“Tactically, though, I’ve been limited by my options because of injuries. I haven’t discussed it much, but we’ve only had five games where the entire squad is available, then we lost the heart of the team.’
He added, “We just have to keep working. Slowly, that sense of being compact as a unit will come back.”
The Spaniard also discussed striker Andrea Belotti, who starts this evening against former club Roma.
“He’s doing well, which isn’t a surprise considering he’s a good player. He played well against Venezia and scored,” stated the 37 year-old.
“We often say that Como plays good football, but we create a lot and don’t score enough. He’s strong in the box, and we hope he’ll do well there.”
Finally, “It’ll also be nice to face (Claudio) Ranieri. He’s a legend. Everywhere he’s gone, he’s done well. I didn’t think I’d be facing him this soon.”
“It’s an honor to compete against him—there’s always something to learn.”
