Como Form Guide: Recent Results

While this will be the club’s first Serie A contest of the season, Como have already played an official match last week, beating Sudtirol 3-1 in the third round of the Coppa Italia thanks to Anastasios Douvikas’ brace.

The Lariani had also impressed in pre-season, beating LOSC Lille, Asian champions Al-Ahli, Ajax and Real Betis, but they also suffered a 0-5 pummelling at the hands of Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Lazio Form Guide: Recent Results

This summer, Lazio found mild success in pre-season, as Maurizio Sarri kept testing several combinations. The Biancocelesti beat their U20 team 2-0 in their first test, before prevailing over Avellino by a solitary goal.

The Aquile then suffered a 0-1 defeat to Fenerbahce, followed by an entertaining 2-2 against Galatasaray in back-to-back friendlies in Istanbul. Nevertheless, they finished their pre-season on a positive note, beating Burnley at Turk Moor thanks to Matteo Cancellieri’s winner, and then recording a 2-0 win over Atromitos in what was anything but a ‘friendly’ affair.

Como vs Lazio: Match Insights

  • This will be the first managerial clash between Sarri and his former Chelsea player, Fabregas.
  • It will also mark the first time Como and Lazio meet on the opening day of the Serie A season.
  • Como are seeking their first opening-day win since beating Torino in September 1951.
  • On the contrary, Lazio won five times in the last six Serie A opening days. Their only defeat during this period was against Lecce in 2023, which was Sarri’s last opening-day fixture to date.
  • Lazio have the upper hand in this fixture, having won nine of their overall 18 Serie A meetings with Como who prevailed on five occasions. Four contests ended in draws, including their last, which took place at the Stadio Olimpico in January.

Starting Lineups: Cesc Fabregas & Maurizio Sarri’s Probable Selections

Como (4-3-3): Butez, Vojvoda, Ramon, Kempf, Valle; Nico Paz, Da Cunha, Caqueret; Diao, Morata, Rodriguez.

Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Provstgaard, Nuno Tavares; Guendouzi, Rovella, Dele-Bashiru; Cancellieri, Castellanos, Zaccagni.

Predictions

Alfredo Pedullà insisted that keeping the same squad from last season is absolutely not an advantage for Lazio, who are trailing behind their rivals. However, it might give them the edge on this particular case, as Como’s newly-crafted squad might require a few weeks to adjust, especially with some of their new signings lacking Serie A experience.
