With seven new signings arriving ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, pre-season proved to be an important time for new players to settle in.

However, for one player, that settling in process was already something she had experienced as a Celtic player after joining the club for a third spell back in June.

Colette Cavanagh became the Hoops’ second summer signing, returning to the club where it all started, and where she made her debut as a 16-year-old.

With the season now underway, Cavanagh and her team-mates are fully into the swing of things after a busy pre-season, which included a trip to Gran Canaria.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the opening two games of the campaign, the midfielder reflected on how she has settled back into life as a Hoops player, which was a process made easier by her new team-mates and the coaching staff.

She said: “It’s been good to see a few familiar faces again, and we've all been getting to know the new players within the team as well.

"There are so many new players and so many different attributes that they bring, so it’s really good that we've got a mixture of talent and different personalities also.

“I definitely feel settled in with the club again now. To be fair, it’s been an easy experience to settle in again.

‘The coaches have played their part in making that easy, and everyone here has played their part.’

“Whether that be the staff or the players. So it’s been enjoyable to be back in these surroundings.”

Following on from pre-season, Fran Alonso's side have made a super start to the competitive action, picking up six points from their opening two games against Montrose and Hamilton Accies.

Cavanagh marked her return with a start on the opening day of the campaign, before coming off the bench against Hamilton Accies at the Excelsior Stadium.

The Academy graduate has been left delighted with the squad’s performances to kick-start the season as she opened up on playing in front of a home Celtic support for the first time in the league last Sunday.

“We put in a good performance against Hamilton Accies, and it’s always good to get seven goals,” she said, "although we do think we could have scored even more, but it was a good team performance.

We had some players starting who haven’t had as many minutes, so it was good to get them going, give them a chance and a few more players getting on the scoresheet as well. Overall, it was a really good team performance.'

'The supporters are brilliant! They are always singing and making theirselves known. So it was great to be out there playing in front of them for the first time.'

The busy start to the season continues for the Celts this midweek as they travel to the capital to take on Spartans this Wednesday evening.

After making a successful start to the campaign, Cavanagh and her team-mates are excited to keep the fixtures coming as they aim to continue their perfect start.

She said: “The games are coming thick and fast now, so we just need to keep the momentum up and hopefully score a few more goals.

"Ultimately it could come down to goal difference when we get to the business end of the season.

“But we are going to keep focused on playing well, moving the ball quickly, getting into the final third, and really hurting teams in those areas.”
