We’ve got used to how good Cole Palmer is, and how quickly he’s gone from relative obscurity to a true global star. It seems even he was caught out by his rise:
“I didn’t think it would happen this quick, but I knew I could do it. I just try to work hard every day, listen to the coaches, stuff like that. I just want to play football,” he said in an interview today on the Chelsea website.
For as well as Palmer is doing, the team are struggling a little right now. Since Christmas their form has dipped, and at times it’s felt like it’s only the Wythenshawe Wizard who is standing between the team and even more poor results.
Recently, even his form has started to fall away as he struggles to carry the team on his back.
“I think we started well. We had a little bit of a dip but we’re just trying to find our form again. I knew Enzo previously, so to work with him again is amazing. Obviously the head coach has given us all the ideas, we’ve just got to execute it,” Palmer explained, at pains to put the emphasis on the players not the coach.
“My relationship is good with the head coach and my team-mates. We’re all close.”

The interviewer also had to squeeze a word in about penalties, Palmer’s most outrageous talent. As always, he insisted they come naturally to him:
“I don’t practice them. Maybe I’ll take like three penalties the day before a game, but it’s not something I practice. But as long as I score, I don’t mind how the goals come.”
Nor do we, Cole. Just keep putting them in the net – the team is relying on it.
