Given it was being hosted in the USA, we expected the Club World Club to be a bit bombastic and a bit bonkers.
It was actually relatively restrained in the end – until the final. There was all sorts going on there, capped by the absolutely bizarre sight of the team going to get their medals from Donald Trump.
Cole Palmer and Trump are two extremely unique characters, both unintentionally hilarious in their own way, and we’d have done anything to have been a fly on the wall for their chat as the American president gave the attacker his player of the tournament award.

Well, we do now have a vague idea of what was said, because Palmer has told us. In a fascinating chat with the Daily Mail, he covered a few topics, but his exchange with the leader of the free world is what we really want to know about.
“When he gave me the award, he said his son is my biggest fan. I can’t remember what I said. I think I said ‘Thank you’ or something,” Palmer said in his typically understated way.
The idea that Trump even knows who Cole Palmer is would have blown a few minds a week ago. Now it turns out that Barron (who had some famous footage of him playing “soccer” go viral a few years ago) has been telling the world’s most important man all about Chelsea’s favourite starlet.
Do we reckon DT knows about the “Cold Palmer” celebration? It’s not beyond the realms of possibility. Maybe he’s seen Palmer’s four goals in 45 minutes against Brighton?
Palmer now gets a well deserved holiday after another season leading Chelsea to glory. Maybe he will be seeing Trump again in a year when he collects his World Cup golden ball?
