For the second international break of the season, and Paulo Fonseca’s AC Milan tenure, he has three games to save his job. A tale all too familiar, and a dangerous cycle to re-enter.

After Milan’s start to the season, Fonseca was at risk. His football in pre-season had not translated to the Serie A campaign, and his position was being scrutinised. When he returned, a loss against Liverpool looked damning, and he required a miracle.

Fonseca made his own miracle though, and the Portuguese head coach saved his job with a 2-1 victory against Inter. When a victory against Lecce followed, the Rossoneri seemed to have found their feet and confidence, to the point where a 1-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen was not a worry.

It has all come crashing down after a 2-1 defeat against Fiorentina, though. Controversy took place once again, and the claims about Fonseca’s control over the team have been reignited after the penalties.

With this, Calciomercato.com states that the head coach has three games to save his job. Fonseca is ‘aware’ that points count more than play, and he requires at least seven points from the three upcoming fixtures.

The credit from the derby win has run out, and Fonseca is back on borrowed time, with possible replacements on the table.
