The race for the position of sporting director at AC Milan is completely open, but Fabio Paratici has taken a commanding lead and he has a ‘dream’ coach in mind.

According to Calciomercato.com, Igli Tare had reached a verbal agreement with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gerry Cardinale in the meeting a few weeks ago in London, but Giorgio Furlani has taken his time because he wants to evaluate other profiles as well.

The common idea would be to include in the management a figure who has a great knowledge of Italian football, a vast network of international contacts and a CV made up of victories and objectives achieved. The identikit perfectly matches that of Paratici.

The former Juventus and Spurs chief now close to definitively serving his 30-month suspension and his stock is ‘rising sharply’. Initially there were doubts within the ownership but these are gradually dissolving, so much so that a meeting with Furlani is planned for this week.

What does that mean for the head coach position? The possible appointment of Paratici would keep the candidacy of Massimiliano Allegri standing, a coach particularly liked by Furlani and Cardinale because he is considered perfect to start a new winning cycle.

However, Paratici’s preference would be to go all-in for Antonio Conte. He has a contract with Napoli until 2027 on a salary figure of around €6.5m net per season plus bonuses on results. It is a complicated idea, for a whole series of reasons, but not impossible.
