Daniel Maldini continues to shine for Monza, and some further background has emerged regarding his AC Milan exit in the summer.

As Calciomercato.com write, Monza head coach Alessandro Nesta spoke about Maldini and praised his qualities: “Daniel is a special player, different from the others. He lacked a bit of continuity that he found here because now he always plays. I am happy with the call to the national team, he deserved it.”

Maldini has been called up by Luciano Spalletti for the Nations League games against Belgium and Israel. He will be the third member of his family to wear the Azzurri jersey after grandfather Cesare and father Paolo. Paolo Maldini’s last appearance for the blue team was on 18 June 2002, his father Cesare’s last on 13 October 1963.

Daniel Maldini certainly owes some thanks to Monza and their CEO Adriano Galliani because he has found a club that allows him to show his qualities and he has been supported in every way by them, after more inconsistent spells with Spezia and Empoli.

The playmaker rejected some offers that arrived from abroad during the summer because in his mind he wanted to go back to Monza, to finally get guaranteed starts in Serie A and ti even get a call up for the national team. It is a decision that proved to be a winning one across the board.

The choices made by Milan during the summer window have divided the fans who are looking at successful purchases but also players who left and are doing well. Daniel ended his love story with the Rossoneri because he needed to play consistently to continue growing.

Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani favoured a move to Monza for Maldini because of the respect and friendship that binds him to Galliani. He went there on a free transfer with a 50% resale clause, the same deal Marco Brescianini left on.
