Club World: Chelsea under pressure ahead of final against PSG
Just days before the grand final of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea are facing uncertainty over Moises Caicedo.
The Ecuadorian midfielder suffered a left ankle injury during the semi-final victory over Fluminense (2-0). Coach Enzo Maresca addressed the situation on ESPN at the end of the match:
Moises has twisted his ankle. I told him not to make it worse, because we have a very important match on Sunday.
Having returned to the starting lineup after serving a suspension in the quarter-finals, Caicedo was forced to leave his teammates prematurely. Despite a brief comeback on the pitch, the pain proved too much. Chelsea had already used all five substitutions, leaving the team down to ten men until the final whistle.
“I told him he must do everything to be ready for Sunday. We'll see,” Maresca added to DAZN. The potential absence of the London playmaker is a major blow for the Blues, who are targeting another trophy after an already successful season (top 4 in the Premier League, Conference League winners).
