This time last year, Chloe Craig was gearing up for another season as a Celtic player.

The 2024/25 campaign actually started off well for the centre-back, who scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Glasgow City early on in the season.

However, just a few weeks later, her season came to an early end in the most cruel circumstances, after sustaining a serious knee injury.

Fast forward almost 12 months, and the 31-year-old is continuing to work her way back to fitness, with there still being some time before she makes that long awaited comeback.

But Craig has taken significant steps forward, and those have been exciting moments for the defender, as she gets closer and closer to a full return.

Speaking at the SWPL league launch day, Chloe reflected on what the process of returning from injury has been like as she opened up on the huge role her team-mates have had to play.

“Knowing that I could be back on the pitch soon, it’s good to have something I'm progressing towards and a target,” she said.

‘It’s exciting to have that from a personal point of view, and I am looking forward to it.’

“The rehab and work I have been putting in has been good. It’s been great to have the girls back in too.

“Doing stuff on your own isn’t as good and maybe doesn’t feel like a team environment.

“But, having the girls back and also the girls who have experienced that injury previously and having them to lean on is really good for me.

“It just goes to show me that you can’t get through it on your own. I’ve needed the girls and to help me push through it.”

Another player who Chloe Craig has been working closely with as they both aim to get back from long-term injury is Clare Goldie.

Whilst Goldie’s injury is a completely separate issue, the duo has been out for almost the same length of time, with the midfielder also being out since September last year.

Having someone to work closely with is something that Craig very much appreciates, and she hopes they will share a special moment when their return comes.

“Clare has been my wee rehab buddy,” Craig said. “So wherever she is, you will find me next to her.

“It’s been hard for us both, especially with it being two totally different injuries. But we’ve been able to lean on each other, and that has been a massive support

'But then also being able to see her thrive and coming closer to being back on the pitch, it will be a special thing for both of us.'

“I think we’ve spoken about it so many times, we hope we get the same game and same number of minutes to be able to go on the pitch together.

“I guess it will be a bit emotional when we both get that moment and are back out on the pitch again.”
