Chelsea’s summer transfer plans for this player could go one of three ways – even Romano isn’t sure

Chelsea have a hugely important final game of the Premier League season tomorrow, but their attentions will also already have turned ahead to the summer transfer window.

One major question that needs to be answered is about Jadon Sancho. After a pretty mediocre loan, we can either send him back to Man U and pay £5m, or pay £25m to buy him. Neither seems a tempting option right now. There’s also the idea we could sign him and sell him on straight away.

Former Blues says it’s “right move” to dump Sancho

Glen Johnson, for example, is pretty clear on his thoughts on what should happen:

“It is certainly the right move to offload Jadon Sancho back to Man United after his loan is over, but spending £5 million to send him back sounds crazy. Although it would be better than paying £25 million to keep him at the club, as he has been underwhelming since joining, despite having his moments,” the former Blues right back said.

“The loan certainly hasn’t gone the way either party planned, and I don’t know what he is like to have around in the dressing room, but if they are paying United to send him back, they clearly don’t think he could contribute to Chelsea in the future.”

Chelsea don’t need Sancho – but paying to not have him also not ideal

For once, we’re genuinely not sure what Chelsea will do. Fabrizio Romano rarely gets things wrong and he said we’ll keep the winger, but given the impending arrival of Estevao Willian and Geovany Quenda over the next two summers, plus the club’s widely known intent of signing another left winger in the summer, keeping Sancho would seem like overkill.

Let’s not forget, the likes of Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling are going to need a new home too – the last thing we need is another asset to worry about depreciating.
