Chelsea return to action this evening against Bayer Leverkusen in a pre-season friendly.
Enzo Maresca’s side have had an extended break following their Club World Cup exploits, with the club’s last fixture the impressive 3-0 final win over Paris Saint-Germain.
The West Londoners face two friendlies before their season opener next weekend, facing Leverkusen tonight before taking on AC Milan on Sunday.
Leverkusen have won three consecutive friendly fixtures as the German outfit adjust to new manager Erik ten Hag.
Levi Colwill is set to miss the majority of the upcoming campaign after Chelsea confirmed the defender has sustained a serious knee injury. Colwill has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury following the club’s return to training.
The defender’s injury could hand a Chelsea lifeline to Renato Veiga, who has returned from a loan spell at Juventus. Veiga was expected to leave the club but could now fight for his place.
Chelsea fans will get a first glimpse of their new signings in action on home soil. Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato and Estevao Willian could all make first Stamford Bridge appearances.
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Hato, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Gittens; Pedro.
