Chelsea are set to reward their players with a massive windfall after their stunning success at the Club World Cup tournament in the United States, according to The Athletic.

The Blues sent shockwaves throughout the globe when they demolished the all-conquering Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to be crowned world champions at MetLife Stadium.

It was the culmination of FIFA’s inaugural newly expanded tournament in New Jersey.

Chelsea’s success earned them an estimated $114.6 million (£84.4m) in prize money.

From this, the club has set aside a $15.5m (£11.4m) bonus pool to reward the players who represented Enzo Maresca’s squad throughout the competition.

The sum will be divided equally among them, with each share worth over $500,000 before currency conversion, taxes, and other deductions.

Winning the Club World Cup was a massive financial boost to Chelsea’s coffers.

Chelsea’s prize money comfortably exceeded $100m for their participation in the four-week event, with PSG taking home $106.9m as runners-up and Real Madrid earning $82.5m.

The extra income has strengthened Chelsea’s hand in the summer transfer market.

The club has moved quickly to reinforce Maresca’s squad, bringing in Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, and Liam Delap.

Pedro and Delap were part of the squad that won the Club World Cup, with the former scoring in the final against PSG. But they’re not done with their summer business.

The Club World Cup success has provided an ideal launchpad for Maresca, who will be hoping his side can improve on their fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Chelsea’s success in New Jersey has increased the pressure on them to compete for the biggest honours this season, and they’re not shying away from the challenge.

The Blues begin their Premier League campaign this Sunday with a home match against Crystal Palace.

Expectations are at an all-time high at Stamford Bridge, although rumour has it that the club owners have tasked Maresca with finishing in the top four this season.
